Players are new heroes to the RADCrawl Arena. They have competed at the local level, but are just seeing fame on the national stage now.

Players have 10 HP and four stats, Brawn, Agility, Magic, and Will.

They assign the following stats to them:

16, 14, 12, and 10

If they are doing an action, the action will give them a stat to roll.

If they are being targeted, the attack will give them a stat to roll as a defense.

Either way, a roll of their stat or lower succeeds. On an attack, a roll of exactly their stat is a crit, roll twice the dice and add them together.

Starting equipment will be really simple and pretty shitty to start. I haven't made it yet.

When you enter a Crawl, draw a Level card. The Level gives modifiers to the setup, provides a modifier to the rooms, and changes the monsters. Each floor will also likely have a boss, but that’s coming soon.

Example:

Name Description Setup Rolling Monsters
Dripping Bog Trudging through horrible knee-high muck, this dungeon floor stinks of rot and death. The bog burbles, aching to consume. Establish a deep bog of any shape that covers d8 squares. Deep bog counts as walkable water and halves movement. Additionally, Agility saves are halved while in deep bog. Creatures that are knocked prone must save vs Brawn or take 1d4 damage as they swallow bog water. Creatures that can breathe water, do not breathe, or have no mouths are immune to this effect. All monsters have water breathing and ignore the penalty of walking through water.
Kobold Warren The walls of this part of the dungeon are covered in small burrows and holes used by the kobolds that live here. Their bloodthirsty shouts echo. Any creature with the kobold tag can spend 1 movement to pass from any wall square to any other wall square. Any creature with the small tag can make a Will check to traverse the tunnels to do the same, on a failure they take 1d4 damage and are trapped until their next turn. All humanoid monsters gain the kobold creature type and the small tag. If a monster previously had the kobold tag, increase their spawn quantity by 50%.

After the floor is drawn, the first Challenge card is played face up. The challenge card will have a name, some flavor text, and a challenge present in the room. If the card is a Modifier, draw an additional card that provides a Monster or other Danger.

Example:

Name Flavor Category Effect
Skeleton Band The melodic clanking of rib bones and teeth gives way to a band of humanoid skeletons ready to dance their way to their graves. Their chorus lines form a macabre dance. Monster 1d4 + Level Skeletons
HP: 5
Bone Club: bashing vs Brawn, 1d6 damage
Deadly Dance: when 2 skeletons flank a creature, sound vs Will. 1d6 damage, shift target by 3
Furious Brawlers The great lumbering figures throw punches with surprising speed. Their battle roars echo out with fury. Monster Level +1 Brawlers (default orcs)
HP: 8
Fisticuffs: bashing vs Brawn, 1d6 damage
Bloodied Knuckles: after taking damage immediate react, shift 1 towards attacker, bashing vs Brawn, 1d6 damage
Horde! The chamber is packed with furious foes! Modifier Double the number of monsters on your monster card. If there is no Monster in this slow, draw another Challenge. If it is a Danger, discard it.
Archery Line Along the far wall of the chamber is a line of archers, bows notched and pulled back. Their arrows demand your focus. Monster 1d4 + Level Archers (default elves)
HP: 4
Bullseye: range 5 piercing vs Agility, 1d6 damage
Fire Into Melee: when a target within a line of 5 makes an attack against someone other than the archer, piercing vs Agility, 1d6 damage

Additionally, a Reward card will be played face down. The backs of Reward cards indicate what kind of reward they are (treasure, equipment, events, blessings, enchantments, fans etc). These will be fleshed out more…

After the first challenge card is revealed, the players may elect to add another challenge. This will add another Challenge to the same room, following the actions as with the original challenge. It will also add another face down Reward card.

Players may accept up to 3 Challenges/Rewards in a room. Once they have agreed to add a challenge, they may not change their mind when the card is revealed.

Once the players have agreed to the number of Challenges/Rewards, the rewards are revealed. Some special rewards will be Instantaneous, some will include a Quest, but most will be given upon completion of the room.
